Asabea is a mother and midwife who took Instagram by storm. Through her stories and experiences, she answers questions that we want to know about the female body but did not dare ask. She breaks norms and taboos, spreading knowledge through uncomfortable conversations that are essential for learning and growth.
Why did you decide to become a midwife?
It was a pretty crooked road there. I, like many others in their 20s, had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was drawn to the care profession as many in my family. After an internship at the maternity ward, it was clear that I was going to be a midwife.
You’ve been named “midwife of Instagram” - what do you think it means for your followers to have access to your knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood?
I hope I can give them the peace of mind that they have the answers to a lot of questions and concerns within themselves. I want to be there for them to fill some knowledge gaps and give them even more power over their situation.
What’s the most common question you get?
It’s really high and low. But fear of childbirth is a recurring subject.
What do you dream of and hope for in 2021?
To be able to continue to see my children grow and develop. To become more grounded and present in myself. To be able to spend time with my parents and family again.
